The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) has introduced the nationally integrated certification mark, “KC.” The new mark stands for “Korean Certification” and unifies 13 existing certification marks into one. This integrated mark reduces the economic burden to industry caused by the previous need for duplicate certifications and offers consumers a convenient means to choose quality products under a single certification mark.

The KC Mark is required for all new products subject to compulsory certification under laws and ordinances pertaining to safety, health, environment and quality.

Background:

• To protect public health and safety, all companies planning to market certain textile products in Korea are required to obtain prior certification from authorized bodies before they can do so. Items subject to legally compulsory certification are specified in related Korean laws and ordinances pertaining to safety, health, environment and quality

Application:

• Self-Regulatory Safety Confirmation:
  • Baby’s textile products for 36 months of age and under (e.g. outerwear, underwear, shoes, bib, hat, dress… etc.)
• Safety Quality Labelling
  • Clothes for children for under 36 months to 12 years of age.
